2010-2011 Season

The winter season of 2009/10 in Lakeland was excellent with great snow conditions on the high fells throughout the winter months. Our courses proved very popular and we'll be running them again next winter. We offer two levels of skills training: one at an Introductory level which focuses on basic winter skills and the other at Intermediate level which shows you the skills needed to cope safely with steeper ground, including mountaineering techniques and rope work. Dealing with mountain hazards and winter navigation are key elements of both courses.Dates and prices for next winter (2010/2011) are still to be confirmed. Please contact us at Summitreks if you'd like more information.Winter Skills For The Hills  (Introductory Level) - 2 Days

Winter courses in the Lake DistrictIf your hill walking experience has been mainly in summer conditions then this course provides the ideal introduction to winter hill walking. It will provide you with the key skills you’ll need. Hill walking in winter is an enjoyable and rewarding activity but it does require special skills to enjoy the hills in safety. You’ll learn how to use ice axe and crampons, including self arrest practice on steep ground, navigate in winter conditions and deal with survival situations. Plus you’ll get expert advice on winter gear.

This course is less technical and not as physically demanding as our Winter Mountaineering course. The course includes the first part of the National Navigation Award Scheme. Assessment is available for those who wish to complete it. Our inclusive price includes full board accommodation and the loan of ice axes and crampons.
