Winter Adventure Weekend

Join us at Summitreks this winter and learn the skills to walk the winter hills in safety and with confidence. Summitreks is the largest independent provider of Adventure Activities in the Lake District. We’ve been operating in Lakeland for 25 years delivering mountaineering courses, hill walking breaks and holidays. Our instructors are highly skilled and experts in providing safe, enjoyable days in the mountains. They’re relaxed, friendly and very keen to ensure you have a great experience. For the Winter Adventure Weekends we’ve teamed up with Brathay Lodge in Ambleside. This is a high quality Bed & Breakfast offering 4 star Guest Accommodation. All bedrooms are en- suite with Jacuzzi spa bath & shower. Perfect for easing tired legs after a great day on the hills!

On the Winter Adventure Weekend we’ll show you how to use ice and crampons, navigate with map and compass and other essential skills including survival techniques. All this combined with two days of guided walking on some of Lakelands highest and best known mountains

Price per person: £199 The fully inclusive price includes two nights Bed & Breakfast accommodation at Brathay Lodge. Tuition and guiding by fully qualified instructors and the loan of all the necessary technical equipment including: ice axe & crampons, map and compass.

The price is based on two persons sharing a room. Single occupancy rooms are also available for which a supplement is payable.

Please note that friends & partners who also want to enjoy a winter weekend in the Lake District, but not participate in the guided mountain walking, can book on an accommodation only basis for £99.00 per person (based on two people sharing a room). If you wish to extend your stay at the Brathay Lodge then you can take full advantage of a special offer with the 3rd night’s accommodation discounted by 50%.

You’ll also receive a 15 % discount card for use in Summitreks Outdoor Stores located in Ambleside, Coniston and Hawkshead.

Itinerary

Friday Arrive at Brathay Lodge from 3.00pm onwards

Saturday 08:45 Meet instructor at Brathay Lodge for introduction to the weekend, briefing for the day and issue of equipment. Weather forecasts.
Depart for full day in the mountains ascending a major Lakeland mountain such as Helvellyn. Throughout the day you’ll be instructed in navigation, assessing hazards and survival techniques. You’ll also be shown how to use ice axe and crampons as an aid to safe and secure walking in winter conditions.

17:00 Return to Brathay Lodge and debrief

Sunday 08:45 Meet instructor at Brathay Lodge. Check forecast. Briefing on today’s route then depart for day in the mountains. Continuation and consolidation
of winter skills learned on previous day plus survival shelters, avalanche detection and avoidance techniques,


16:30 Return to Brathay Lodge
Final debrief and collection of technical equipment

Please note: Hills climbed and final route choice will be determined by conditions prevailing on the day. In the event of unsuitable weather conditions, we will not cancel the course but the itinerary may be amended or adapted.

Breakfast is provided on the Saturday and Sunday of your Winter Mountain Adventure Weekend but not evening meal. The breakfast at Brathay Lodge is a continental style buffet breakfast, the menu is extensive and can be viewed on Brathay Lodge’s website. Although evening meal is not available at Brathay Lodge there’s a wide choice of restaurants and eating establishments with menus to suit all tastes and budgets located nearby. Hearty packed lunches ideal for a mountain day can be provided by Brathay Lodge for which there is an additional charge.

Please note that transport is not included in the price. Participants are expected to arrange their own transport to Brathay Lodge and for the short journeys to access points for each day’s walking. It is usual for car sharing to be arranged each day.
