Mountain Scrambling (2 Days)

This course is aimed at those with some hill walking experience who now wish to extend their knowledge into scrambling and try more adventurous mountain routes. The course will cover all aspects of scrambling, both roped and unroped, with ascents of graded scrambling routes.
All specialist equipment is provided and included in the price. Topics covered will include: scrambling techniques on rock and mixed ground, use of ropes and safety systems, weather forecasts, route choice, route finding and guide books.

For our “Scrambling” course you’ll be based at Borrowdale YHA. Borrowdale YHA provides 4 star hostel accommodation and is located in the heart of Lakeland’s finest mountain ranges with access to some of the best scrambles in the Lake District.

Itinerary

Friday evening Arrive at Borrowdale YHA

Saturday 08:45 Meet with Summitreks instructor for briefing and equipment check.
Weather forecasts. Depart for days scrambling.
A full day of scrambling – covering roped and unroped techniques.
17:00 Return to Youth Hostel. Afternoon tea and debrief.
19:00 Evening Meal.

Sunday 08:45 Meet with instructor for briefing on plan for the day.
Depart for scrambling day.
Ascent of a graded scramble consolidating and building on techniques
learnt on Saturday.
16:30 Return to Youth Hostel.
Afternoon tea and final debrief.

Please note: The plan for each day and final route choice will be determined by conditions prevailing on the day and the weather forecast. We will not cancel the course but the itinerary may be amended or adapted.

What’s Included

The price includes two nights accommodation at Borrowdale YHA and all meals (including packed lunches and a free flask filling service) starting with breakfast on the Saturday morning and finishing with afternoon tea on Sunday. Please note that the evening meal on Friday (19:00hrs) is not included in the price but can be booked in advance and paid for on arrival if required.

All technical equipment and tuition by Summitreks team of fully qualified instructors.

A 15 % discount card for use in Summitreks Stores located in Ambleside, Coniston and Hawkshead is presented to all participants.

Please note that transport is not included in the price. Participants are expected to arrange their own transport to YHA Borrowdale and for the short journeys to access points for the days scrambling. It’s usual for car sharing to be arranged each day.
